The primary purpose of our "First Steps" Ministry is to provide loving care for our infant through three-year-olds during our worship times. With more than one hundred adult volunteers, this ministry represents the single largest volunteer force in our church family. Volunteer teachers are asked to serve once every six-to-eight weeks, though some choose to serve more often. First Steps seeks to provide a safe, positive environment for the children of First Baptist Church whenever they are in childcare. To that end, our church provides annual training for all volunteers to maintain awareness of policy and procedure regarding nursery safety and cleanliness. Our childcare teachers also strive to exemplify God's love through a loving attitude as well as creative Bible lessons and activities used in class.
For four and five-year-olds, the Sunday Morning Bible Study is a time for children to participate in age-appropriate activities and experiences which will help them to build beginning knowledge of God, the Bible and the world around them. Biblical concepts are shared through teacher interaction, prepared activities and learning centers. Teachers guide preschoolers in experiences using the Bible, Bible thoughts, songs, and conversation.
